So obviously I am not great at this communication thing considering it is almost seven at night and I am just starting my blog.
Communication has never been one of my strong points in fact with some people close to me we are able to understand what the other is thinking with out talking at all. Those people of course are the closest to me being my two best friends and my dad.
If I would have to say one time when communication was a major point in my life, it would probably have to be during my years in high school on our robotics team. This would include all of the time that the different teams being mostly design and manufacturing team, would have to communicate their ideas and plans in order to successfully build the robot within our six week build period. This is not the only time communication was essential but also when we would go to competitions. The communication here would be in between the drive team which I was a part of and the pit crew which I also managed to be a part of but the details about what was broken, needed to be fixed, or needed to be changed would have to be clearly communicated. This was a big part of the competition and we had to move very quickly because we had very little time in between rounds in order to make changes or fixes. The last time when our communication was very critical was within the drive team itself, between the operator and me, the driver, in order to control the robot; this is because the control system of the robot required two people.
When I was younger the biggest problem I had with communicating was completing my sentences with clear details. I always understood what I was talking about but other people unless they spent a lot of time around me would get lost when I would try to get out thoughts. It is actually hard for me to think of any instances right now that would give a better understanding to this, guess it is kind of ironic that I am trying to convey an idea yet I can not think of an example to show it. I have gotten better since being younger at least most of the time, other times it seems to be that the people that are around me most like I said earlier they seem to be able to think like me or at least understand my way of thinking.
So it seems not so much that communication has been a large part of my life but more of being able to understand with a lack of communication. In some ways this seems like it could be good for the people close to me to where a communication block would not cause as much of a problem, but for people that don’t know me as well it could be very difficult because it can be frustrating because they don’t understand that it is difficult for me to clearly convey my ideas.

We have a thing in common when dealing with communication. For me my issue is not so much communicating because I love to chit chat but it is getting my point across clearly and effectively and if I am not mistaking this is what you claim in your blog as well. It is beyond frustrating and I understand what you are saying. It must have been hard for you since you were on the robotics team and witty people are known for being apart of that, I would probably feel intimidated by the smarter kids who easily say what needs to be said. Also you mentioned how your close family and friends do not need you to finish a sentence to understand what your saying and they same goes for me however reality is there is not many more people who will understand what you mean by half of a statement. Oh not to mention do not worry about posting your blog until 7pm, seems how I posted mine not to long ago and I just read the due date was late night. Seems to me you are good with due dates since your robots are due in six weeks sequences, so you are comfortable with time lines although six weeks is much more time to do something rather than the one week we get to turn everything in. You shall do fine in this course just know you are not alone.
I completely understand how you feel about communicating and where you are coming from. I also struggle with the ability to sit down and get my thoughts to turn into words. When I finally do get words down on the page it doesn’t seem to be what exactly I’m looking for. I always think that it doesn’t sound smart enough or it’s usually just a bunch of thoughts and points strung-out over a couple paragraphs. Organizing my thoughts to sound like its critical thinking is the hardest challenge of all. Its funny how we both struggle with this yet when we are around the people that know us best, it’s so easy to know what they are talking about with speaking very few words. I would love to know how your robot did in the competitions. My dad and I use to watch Robot Wars all the time, if that’s the type of robots you are talking about. =) Critical thinking along with organized intellectual thoughts are very hard to get across in words I think unless your and English major and this is your calling. I totally understand your struggle so hopefully we can help each other to make the best out of the class and succeed.
As with you and Erin, the ability to communicate effectively has plagued me since childhood. It's was so much that I could not express an idea, especially in writing, but I had a hard time vocalizing those ideas. My confidence level with regards to communicating with others at school, in the work place, and even in personal relationships we very low; perhaps too low for someone who was supposed to be well educated. I have since managed to overcome those issues through lots of practice in tough situations. If I had any advise to offer as an individual getting up there in years, I encourage you to communicate with others as often as possible. Its better to overcome your anxiety about speaking with others now while you are still able to make mistakes and "put your foot in your mouth" without it causing divorce or job loss. Just my 2 cents.
